May 2015 - Steelwork, Waterproofing, Underslab Plumbing

Roof drain piping.

More roof drain piping.

Redneck welding cart!

Waterproofing at "interior" CMU wall.

Basement water-proofing underway.

Under-slab DWV piping underway.

Slab prep underway.

Clean-out for the foundation drain, who does that?

Steel beams over crawlspace; 6" roof drain line.

The boulder still making its presence known.

Basement Walls after grouting.

April 2015 - Foundation Walls

That is one pretty footing!

Really? Who uses Stego Wrap in a house? That'd be me!

Grade beam over boulder.

Crawlspace under Misha's room.

Basement slab finished.

Basement walls underway, note the rebar.

Ditto, see the bond beams? Check the stacked bond.

Basement walls topped out.

West "wing" of the house. I think we used over a dozen different types of CMU.

March 2015 - First CMU delivery

David McQueen with Adams Products hooked me up with all the block I needed. Unfortunately, our Bobcat 843 can only lift one-half a cube of block, so I had to break down all the pallets by hand in order to move the block around.

March 2015 - Footings Part 2

When you have to set up lights to pour concrete, its too early!

Boom truck was definitely the way to go.

Will taking a much needed break

We poured almost 50 yards of concrete that morning.

Couldn't fit the whole boom in the frame.

March 2015 - Footings Part 1

Finally got all the footings dug and formed and all the rebar placed.
There is more of that huge rock.

We had to form these footings as the rocks were so densely packed, we couldn't dig through them.

Footing steps of death.

December 2014 - The geology lesson

Apparently, NC does have some huge boulders around. I hit one that appears to be larger than a train car and runs under my entire building pad. We had to raise the house up almost 2 feet higher than intended, and I ended up with space for a partial basement. This required a redesign of one whole side of the house. To finalize the design, I had to get a fairly accurate profile of the rock. Also, that little rock nubbin sticking up near the larger rock... hard as hell. We could not get that thing to break off. I guess it will be a focal point in the rock garden.

November 2014 - More Grading

Let the fun begin!
I love new toys... especially lasers.

Fletcher rocking the E42.

Yeah, the rock keeps getting bigger.

August 2014 - Well Drilling

Drilling rig set up.
We're drilling!

Well #1 605 feet... dry.

Well #2 405 feet...dry.

July 2014 - Clearing and Grading

George heading in on the loader.

The beginnings of a driveway.

Cutting the building pad.

Yes, that is a big rock on the left side.
